The law of God ties all men perpetually, regardless of whether in paradise or heck, Psalm cxi. 7, 8. No human law or self-commitment ties men, yet just in this life, in which they stay defective, and are incorporated with compulsions to entice them from their obligation. The commitment of legitimate guarantees, pledges, promises and agreements, just as of human laws, regarding moral obligations, anyway unmistakable is not any more detachable from the commitment of God’s law, than Christ’s two particular qualities are distinguishable, the one from the other, however firmly associated in complex regards. In restricting ourselves to vital obligations, and to different things so long thus far
as is favorable thereto, God’s law as the lone principle to guide us how to commend and appreciate him, is made the standard of our commitment. Our promise is no new guideline of obligation, yet another attach to make the law of God our standard.
Indeed, even Adam’s commitment to consummate submission in the agreement of works was nothing else. His unsteadiness in his bequest of guiltlessness, made it legitimate, that he ought to be limited by his own assent or commitment, just as by the authority of God. Our blemish in this life, and the allurements which encompass us, make it needful, that we, in like way, ought to be bound to a similar guideline, both by the authority of God, and our own commitment. It is in the law of God, that all our deputed position to order others, or to tie ourselves is allocated to us.
The prerequisite of good obligations by the law of God obliges us to utilize all legitimate way to advance the presentation of them; and subsequently requires human laws and self-commitment, and the recognition of them as helpful for it. Nay they are likewise explicitly needed in his law, as his mandates for aiding and supporting us in to our obligation. In making legitimate promises, just as in causing human laws we to apply the deputed authority of God, the preeminent Lawgiver, allowed to us in his law, in the way which his law recommends, and in acquiescence to its remedy.
In shaping our promises as an initiated mandate of God’s love, which he hath expected us to get, notice, and keep unadulterated and whole, Psalm lxxvi. 11. and cxix. 106. and lvi. 12. Isaiah xix. 18, 21. and xlv. 23, 24. and xliv. 5. Jeremiah l. 5, 2 Corinthians viii.5,- – we act exactly as per the course of his law, and in acquiescence to his clout in it, – restricting ourselves with a bond, restricting our spirit with a bond, Numbers xxx. 2-11- – restricting ourselves by that which we utter with our lips sections 2, 6, 12, – restricting ourselves with a limiting pledge,- – restricting ourselves- – restricting our spirit by our own promise – our own bond, refrains 4,7,14.
